First Impressions – Dior Homme Sport 2021

Never easy keeping up with the flankers at Dior. But, a little background research reveals the latest Dior Homme Sport flanker is the 4th iteration in the line. Unfortunately, they’ve become progressively worse since the classic 2008 scent. Luckily, I have a backup bottle of this 2008 classic with about half remaining. Francois Demachy has authored them all.

The original idea for the 2008 version was to recreate the sensation of eating firey candy. The clever use of ginger saw that vision realised. The latest version is meant to evoke the feeling of a boxer’s uppercut. Dior should give themselves an uppercut. Indeed, If this latest sports flanker were ever to step into the ring, it would have its lights knocked out in a few seconds. It packs very little punch.

The original Dior Homme Sport from 2008, pictured here with another favourite sport scent from Chanel. I’ve used half my bottle. Despite its age, the juice is holding up well. I just noticed my soccer ball is flat, which is a rather apt look for this latest Dior.

Everything looked good on paper, with Dior recruiting some interesting off-season acquisitions in terms of notes, including incense, aldehydes, and elemi. However, they all fail to deliver. I’m not even sure any of them show up. Limpid citruses and amber woods show up, though. Why are they always so reliable? Sadly, this scent is the perfume equivalent of watching paint dry. I liken this fragrance to a grizzled veteran that’s overstayed their welcome and held on a couple of seasons too long. Unquestionably, the time has come for Dior to hang up the boots on this “Sport” line. My advice is to save your pennies (or, in this case, over 100 dollars) and buy yourself a deodorant from Adidas, you’ll smell just as good as you do with the Dior.

Have you sampled this one? Do you have a favourite “Sport” fragrance?
