First Impressions – Dior

Miss Dior Rose N'Roses Christian Dior for women

Dior – Miss Dior Rose N’Roses – We must be approaching 25-30 flankers of Miss Dior by now. In 2020 Dior decided it was time for another. This year has delivered many rose scents, and this one will surely be lost in the shuffle. It’s a fruity floral with the usual mix of bergamot and mandarin in the top, combining with a somewhat muted rose heart that never really rises to any great heights. The base is heavily laden with white musk which to my nose dominates the composition. Safe for the office and probably for those who aren’t particularly enamoured with rose. Utterly forgettable.

Dior Homme (2020) Christian Dior for men

Dior – Dior Homme (2020) – The first iteration of Dior Homme was introduced in 2005, and the Iris, woody scent remains one of my favourite scents of the last 2 decades. Apparently, this iris gem will live on, in the guise of a scent dubbed Dior Homme Original. It would be an understatement to say this new Dior Homme raised some consternation amongst Fragcomm when the scent was launched, particularly after the note breakdown was announced. Gone is the beloved iris and leather replaced with transparent woods (iso-e super), cedar and cashmere. It was clear from the get-go that this new iteration was going to be nothing like its beloved predecessor/s. Perhaps the best word to describe its wear on skin would be conservative. Others may say boring. It is undoubtedly well made but it feels like it was made for the masses, fitting in with the safe, modern, woody fresh scents that adorn the shelves of the department store. It’s all pencil shaving woods, generic citruses and buttoned up conservatism. There’s nothing wrong with that, and the times I’ve worn it I’ve been met with positive feedback. Dior are giving the people what they want, and I suspect it will sell well. It’s no great shakes but at least it’s not Sauvage.

Have you tried these 2020 releases from Dior? What did you make of them?

  1. Great reviews! I found Miss Dior a scent a 15 year old girl would wear; and Dior Homme 2020, a pleasant ordinary masculine scent; definitely not not a flanker of the original Iris based Dior Homme. Certainly it will be a huge success, specially for its marketing!

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting. Yes, unfortunately the new Miss Dior wasn’t much to write home about. As for Dior Homme I’m sure it will sell like hotcakes.

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting Rich. Yes, they’ll both be big sellers for Dior I’m sure.
