New Farm Park Rose Garden

Prompted by Nose Prose (https://noseprose.com/) and her fantastic blog post detailing her trip to the rose garden in Portland, I ventured out to Brisbane’s New Farm Park and its famed rose garden last weekend. The gardens have been around for over a century, opening in 1914. In its heyday in the 1940s, it was home to over 20,000 roses. Nowadays, that number sits at a much reduced 7,000. Still, a trip to New Farm makes for a fantastic outing for the rose garden and all the other park’s sights, sounds, and scents. Here are a few photos I took of the roses.

Which scent did I wear to the rose garden? I chose Frederic Malle’s abstract impression of a rose, Rose & Cuir. Still in a rosy mood in the evening, I sprayed Elie Saab’s Essence No. 1 Rose. It was mild, and there was a bit of cloud cover around, so both scents worked well. These perfumes may become cloying on hot days, particularly the vanilla rose combo of the Elie Saab.

  1. Thanks for the mention, and I’m glad you made it out to New Farm Park! Those roses look gorgeous. The dark red one with a tinge of orange looks a similar color to Hot Cocoa but in a hybrid tea rose shape. Fascinating!

    1. You’re welcome, and thank you! I did take note of the rose names, but I inadvertently deleted it from my phone. I guess I’ll have to go back again sometime.
