The two newest perfumes from Jovoy are under the microscope this weekend. Jovoy isn’t a house I speak about often, but their latest two are worth a sample if you’re a fan of their respective genres.
Jovoy – Fire at Will – Putting the silly name aside, I enjoyed wearing this scent. Undoubtedly, it could have descended into a vanillic sweet nightmare. But instead, it retains a certain level of sophistication, perhaps thanks to the injection of honeyed mimosa and light musks.
Ultimately, Fire at Will is a calorific concoction that wears its sweet heart on its sugary sleeve, becoming almost like a crème brûlée as it progresses. I’ll finish my sample of this one, but I won’t buy a bottle. And, if you already own Indult’s Tihota, you won’t need this one at all, as they’re very similar.
Jovoy -21 Conduit St – This one takes its name from the street address of the London Jovoy boutique. It’s more up my alley than Fire at Will. 21 Conduit St is an intriguing blend of grapefruit, aromatic lavender notes, fruity rhubarb, nutty amaretto, and a very nicely done vetiver. It smells high quality, and the vetiver component brings olfactory comparisons with Chanel’s Sycomore to mind. However, the rhubarb aspect is a point of difference from the Chanel.
21 Conduit St smells less smoky and dry than Sycomore. And indeed, it’s more aromatic than another of its close cousins, Flash Back from Olfactive Studio. There’s undoubtedly ambroxan in the base notes, but for once, it doesn’t overpower the rest of the perfume. The promotional material for the fragrance talks about lavender being front and centre, but I pick up only a touch. Instead, I find it a vetiver-centric scent with a supporting cast of tangy rhubarb, almond/amaretto, and ambrox. Interesting stuff.
Have you tried these two perfumes from Jovoy? Do you have a favourite from the brand?
Note: Tested from samples I purchased. Bottle images from Fragrantica. Sycomore image is my own.
Great overview! Tks to you I had the chance to try these ones! Fire at Will is indeed too similar to Tihota.
Thanks very much, Tetê. Yes, it’s hard to differentiate between the two.
21 Conduit St sounds interesting, especially with your reassurance that the ambroxan isn’t too strong.
Yes, hopefully you get to sample it. I’m interested to know your thoughts.
Haven’t tried either of them yet, dear Daniel. But keen to do so, especially since you mention here (and on my recent post, thanks) the Ambroxan factor. Great reviews. And beautiful Chanel shot.
Thanks very much, Rich. Yes the 21 Conduit St is nicely done, and well worth a sample.
