Atelier des Ors – Pink Me Up – The bottles for the two new scents from Atelier des Ors are stunning. However, more importantly and dismally, the juice inside each is limpid and disappointing. Pink Me Up fuses berries, roses, and a champagne accord. But, the overall impression is of flat champagne that has lost its fizz. The berries and rose feel uninspired, and the composition is dull and flat. Almost immediately, Pink me Up smells like any number of the crop of generic fruity florals currently adorning the department store shelf. And the likes of Armani, Juicy Couture, and Lancome go for half the price of this pink juice.
In terms of niche, there are superior options too. Perfumes such as Liquides Imaginaires excellent Dom Rosa and the vastly cheaper Remarkable People by Etat Libre d’Orange occupy a similar olfactory/commercial space and offer far better quality for the price. Perhaps, much of the cost for this one went into the gold flakes and bottle.
Atelier des Ors – Noir by Night – Noir by night smells plain horrible. At least to my nose. Give it a try if you dare, but the salty, savoury mix of coriander, caviar, and smoky woods isn’t how I want to smell. As it develops, a marine facet surfaces, which is slightly off-putting. I’ll give them props for trying something different with this, but it doesn’t gel with my skin. The synthetic woods/musks in the base finish things off in a rather, shall I say unsavoury manner. Perhaps if you like Oud Minérale from Tom Ford or Mugler Womanity, you may enjoy the salty marine murkiness of Noir by Night.
There will be folks who buy these fragrances based on the bottles alone. Sadly, these two releases are prime examples of a brand valuing style over substance. Cuir Sacre (dry leather/vetiver) remains my pick from Atelier des Ors.
Have you tried these two? Any favourites from this brand?
Note: Bottle images from Fragrantica. Samples obtained/purchased by me.
After sampling these two scents, I need less of a pink me up and more of a pick me up, so here are some pink flowers I photographed from around the traps.
I hate when the bottle is better than the contents, Daniel.
Me too my friend. And sadly it happens too often these days.
I found the bottles so pretty, and
i was curious to try them…
Not anymore! Tks for the honest opinion!
Yes, unfortunately, the bottles are much prettier than the juice inside. Thanks for reading and commenting, Tetê!
Haven’t smelled these and am certainly not keen to now, but I will say I really liked both Dom Rosa and Remarkable People with their champagne note.
Indeed, they are far better than Pink me Up. Glad you like them too.
I’ve enjoyed several releases from the brand, but still need to try these two, dear Daniel. The bottles are certainly gorgeous, as are your pics.
Thanks very much, Rich. Yes, Cuir Sacre and Rouge Saray are my picks from the house. Their bottles are shall we say..blingtastic!!! Haha.
