First Impressions – Maison Trudon – Aphélie

Maison Trudon – Aphélie – Luxury candle maker Trudon has a strong collection of scents to their name already. They released five at once back a few years ago, and my favorite was the green piney, smokey fig-like Deux. Aphélie is their eighth fragrance, and much like Deux, it also goes down the green garden path.

However, Aphélie differs from Deux in some ways. It’s a spicy, mossy green scent where ivy and oakmoss combine to produce a green vegetal blanket. It’s quite a sharp green scent. Blackcurrant bud, highly prominent in the mix, gives it an almost sticky fruity aspect. There are also rose and sandalwood notes here, but they are only bit-part players. The rose sticks out now and again to inject a lemony dewy freshness, with the woods providing a solid base.

This new Trudon perfume is ivy green, with mossy vegetal touches and the hint of rose. Image is my own.

If you like things like L’Ombre dans l’Eau from Diptyque or Wander Through the Parks from Miller Harris, you may enjoy Aphélie. I think it leans slightly more feminine than Deux. I’d highly recommend trying the brand, as they have some high-profile names authoring their perfumes. Antoine Lie composed Aphélie. And, the likes of Lyn Harris, Yann Vassnier are behind their other creations. I found all their fragrances to be high quality compositions, very much in keeping with their top class home fragrance line.

Furthermore, they haven’t gone down the usual route of ticking the “genre” boxes when producing their scents. So there’s no rose oud or gourmand, etc. Still, Aphélie isn’t the most unique scent as it reminded me of the aforementioned green scents, but it’s well worth a sniff if you like this genre.

Have you tried Trudon? Do you like their home scenting products?
