Burberry – Mr Burberry Indigo & Carven L’Eau Intense – Not all designers are created equal. 6/10.
In today’s mini-reviews, Mr. Burberry Indigo and Carven L’Eau Intense, both by Francis Kurkdjian, are under the microscope. Neither feels high budget, but they are commendable releases as far as designer scents go. Ultimately, it is hard to separate the two, as Francis Kurkdjian explores similar themes in the pair.
Indigo is not the colour that Mr. Burberry Indigo brings to mind. Due to the minty aromatic notes, it’s more of a green fragrance. This Burberry feels like a tour through a fragrant herb garden with the hint of rain in the air. Spearmint, rosemary, and wildflowers abound. Francis Kurkdjian is in tow as my trusty guide. All things considered, he does a reasonable job of capturing the intended inspiration, i.e., the sensation of a fresh sea breeze of the English coast. By and large, a perfectly competent modern masculine that’s better than most designer releases of recent vintage. It lasted 5-6 hours on my skin with moderate projection for the first couple of hours. Solid work.
Carven L’Eau Intense is a minty lavender fougere featuring lemon, a slight leather touch from birch leaf, and for once, a well-judged woody amber dry down. It was composed by Jerome Di Marino and Francis Kurkdjian. It reminds me of Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Club, the YSL Jazz scents (both Live Jazz and the original), and perhaps a little of the aforementioned Mr. Burberry Indigo. However, the Carven sparkles more than the Burberry and certainly leans more heavily on the citrus notes.
A touch of cardamom creeps in as time goes by to add a little spice to proceedings. Overall, a zesty, refreshing scent with a few intriguing accompaniments. It lasts 3-4 hours on skin. Despite its poor longevity, it rises well above the likes of some of the dross passing as fine fragrance on the department store shelves, such as Dunhill Icon Racing and Invictus Aqua.
Have you tried these two scents?

Great reviews, although I haven’t tried neither of these. Beautiful photos!
Thanks for reading and commenting as always, Tetê. I’m glad you like the photos.
Great pics and reviews, dear Daniel. Carven L’Eau Intense is lovely stuff. Don’t think I’ve tried the Burberry.
Thanks very much, Rich. Glad you like the Carven. I’d say if you like that one, you should enjoy the Burberry too.
