If you’re a sports fanatic like myself, you’ll be looking forward to the Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020. Postponed from last year due to COVID, it will hopefully provide a two-week escape from the ongoing pandemic. Although half of Australia is in lockdown as I write this post, luckily, here in Queensland, we are relatively free from restrictions and can move about unfettered. Having said that, most evenings, I’ll be on the couch enjoying the feast of sports that only the Olympics can bring. This Olympics will no doubt feel a lot different from previous editions. For one, there won’t be any crowds. Such a shame as the atmosphere won’t be the same without the hordes of fans cheering on the athletes, but I’m sure they’ll still put on quite a show.
In keeping with the sporting theme, I’ll be pairing my viewing with some of my favourite sports scents.
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne is a podium finisher. A simple game plan of citruses, elemi, and white musk makes it easy to wear and a perfect gym companion. Go heavy on the sprays, though, as this competitor is more of a sprinter than a marathon runner—another classy one from the Chanel stables.
Dior Homme Sport, the 2008 version, features a considerable dose of ginger. Easily my favourite sports scent. The GOAT and a gold medal winner. The Federer of fresh fragrances. Francois Demachy wanted to evoke the feeling of eating candy when composing this scent. Indeed, the combo of ginger and citruses does have that fresh burst feeling of eating citrus candy. Hall of fame stuff. The inclusion of woody base notes give this one some depth. As a result this Dior is more of a stayer when compared to the Chanel.
Lalique Encre Noire Sport – Punches well above its weight as a sports fragrance. Encre Noire Sport retains the original Encre Noire DNA with a citrus twist. Think of it as more of an all-rounder – a multi-disciplinary event competitor useful in many situations. Encre Noire Sport is the versatile decathlete of the sports fragrance genre.
I think these are three great sporting scents that rise above most others in the much-maligned genre. They’ll keep me smelling fantastic over the coming fortnight. Let the games begin!!
Are you looking forward to the Olympics? Any favourite sports scents?
Great post on Sport scents! I like Dior Sport the most!
Thanks very much, Tetê. It sits on top of the podium for me too.
The Olympics? Have I missed something… Even I caught some opening snippets yesterday. What a selection, dear Daniel. Love them all.
Haha. Thanks Rich.
