Here are some quick thoughts on three of the new perfumes from the Thai brand Strangers Parfumerie. Prin Lomros has undoubtedly come up with some interesting names for the latest creations. The first one I’ll talk about has one of the longest names in perfume history, with wait for it…..”Roasted Coffee Cigarette Whisky Come And Get Your Suede Honey Baby”. Phew. The excellent roasted coffee opening befits the name, and the boozy notes come in later. However, the boozy notes aren’t strong enough, and sadly the thin dry-down is a disappointment. It’s almost as if the entire formula expense was crammed into the opening. Similar in style to their SM Cafe without the leather. Too top-heavy for my liking.
A “Sorta Fairytale in Hyde Park” is a honeyed mimosa scent with broom and orris in the background. It’s nice, but I’ve recently tried two scents, Lost Alice and Ray-Flection from Masque Milano, that featured the very same notes. I feel those two scents are stronger. A nicely placed peach note helps to conjure the colours of yellow and orange. Sadly, it again disappoints as it develops, slowly descending into a light musk rather quickly.
My favourite of the three is “Yuzu Soda,” a delightfully uplifting citrus scent centered on the none too commonplace yuzu fruit. It sparkles and zings on the skin. The effervescent interjection of aldehydes and creamy soda accord provides for a burst of perfumed joy. Petitgrain, mint, rosemary, and basil impart a fresh herbal effect over proceedings. The citrus zing remains for a highly impressive 8 hours before the musk notes take over. Fortunately, I cannot detect the listed seaweed note. Very nice.
