Tom Ford – Beau de Jour – Ah Tom all is forgiven. The various missteps in the Private Blend line over recent years are in the past, let’s look to the future, and what better way than this glorious fougere in a rather striking, classy bottle that would look great on any bathroom shelf or indeed anywhere you choose to display your fragrances. Beau de Jour was first released in 2019 as part of the Private Blend Line. A classic aromatic fougere that brought the age old style into a modern era. In 2020 it has been re-released, this time as part of his “Signature” line, and with that at a much more accessible price point.
I’m pleased to report this new iteration loses none of its charm. Bracing notes of rosemary, mint, basil and oakmoss lend proceedings a decidedly classy touch. Of course lavender is prevalent in the mix and combined with the aromatic herbal notes give the scent an old school shaving foam vibe. Tasteful and never in your face, amber and patchouli in the base add warmth and the amber in particular a touch of sweetness, ensuring the scent never falls into cliché “old man territory”.
If performance and sillage are your thing, well Beau de Jour won’t leave you disappointed. It lasted well over 10 hours on my skin, with decent projection for the first couple of hours. It is something more suited to formal occasions, but I think Beau de Jour would acquit itself well to a white tee and jeans kind of day. Self-assured, self-confident and in charge Beau de Jour is one of my favourite releases of the year, and oh yeah did I mention I love the bottle?
Have you tried Beau de Jour? What did you make of it?
