With the warm weather currently dominating in the Southern Hemisphere I thought I’d review 3 of my favourite Guerlain’s I reach for when the temperature rises.
Guerlain Homme EdT – Mojito in a perfume bottle 7.5/10
A wonderful uplifting fresh boozy scent from Guerlain. Mojito, mint, bergamot, vetiver, rum and lime make for a rather cooling elixir to combat any heatwave. A crisp, green, icy pick me up that feels as though it cools the skin on contact. The opening bright notes of mint, mojito and lime eventually giving way to an understated, elegant vetiver and cedar dry down. The main knock with this fragrance is the longevity, it disappears after 4-5 hours. I wear this fragrance year round, but it gets its main workouts on hot summer days. Excellent work.
Guerlain Herba Fresca – Chewing gum and freshly cut grass 9.5/10
One of my favourite mint scents, Herba Fresca is a combination of spearmint gum, freshly cut grass, and florals. A green tea note provides a subtle herbal vibe. A clover note gives it some sweetness and a fresh cut dewy grass feel. Its lack of complexity serves it well during the summer months when one is looking for something less heavy to wear. A transparent minty breath of fresh air that resembles Menthe Fraiche from Heeley at a much reduced cost. It lasts 5-6 hours on skin, with light projection. One of the first Aqua Allegoria scents from Guerlain, and still one of the best. An oldie but a goodie.
Guerlain Pamplelune – The reference grapefruit 9.5/10
My other favourite from the Aqua Allegoria line, Pamplelune is the reference grapefruit. Released in 1999, Pamplelune alongside Herba Fresca was one of the original Aqua Allegoria scents. Juicy, tart, fresh and a perfect accompaniment to a warm weather day. Bergamot, blackcurrant bud and petitgrain add further freshness into the mix. It’s held together by a sweet vanilla / patchouli base, which extends the longevity of the scent, though I generally only get about 5-6 hours. A radiant, sparkling, luminous citrus with a soft vanilla twist in the base. Hard to go wrong with Pamplelune. Quality work, that’s enough to put a pep in anyone’s step.
