Reviews – Etat Libre d’Orange

The house of Etat Libre d’Orange is without doubt one of my favourite niche houses. Avant-garde and with many quality offerings that push the boundaries. In today’s blog post I’ll review a couple of their offerings, Remarkable People and Fat Electrician.

Etat Libre d’Orange Fat Electrician – Gourmand Vetiver 8/10

A vetiver from Etat Libre d’Orange that doesn’t play on the green, fresh or woody aspects of the note. Rather, Fat Electrician plays a gourmand tune, with prominent supporting notes of myrrh, opoponax, vanilla, chestnut, olive leaf and whipped cream giving it a creamy dessert like feel. Long lasting at 8-10 hours of longevity, with very good projection. The lack of citrus notes and the inclusion of gourmand notes help to extend the life of the scent, and ensure Fat Electrician is sufficiently different from the rest of the vetiver pack to make it worth trying. Highly recommended, and one that I use in moderation and on cooler days.

Etat Libre d’Orange Remarkable People – Cardamom Fanta 9/10

My favourite from a house that offers wide ranging scents to cater for all, there’s the lip-smacking cherry of Bendelirious, the rose mint of You or Someone Like You, the leather incense of Rien, the creamy chestnut vetiver in Fat Electrician. or the smoky floral of Jasmin et Cigarette. Remarkable People is a combination of grapefruit and champagne at the outset evoking fizzy orange soda.  Cardamom and pepper mix in and add spice.  The cardamom plays a starring role.  The woody dry down is well judged, and the fragrance maintains a fizz through to the end.  Always puts a smile on my face and almost good enough to drink.  I get 8 plus hours of fizzy champagne goodness.
